Summary

From the analysis on energy consumption, a reclaimed water source heat pump based combined heating and cooling system was proposed to use the energy in available resources from waste-water treatment plants. In the present system, a reclaimed water source heat pump is used to absorb the heat of waste water from the plant to meet the heating need in the thermophilic anaerobic digestion process. Then the waste water with lower temperature is applied to cool the plant buildings in summer. The effect of the evaporating temperature on the system efficiency was analyzed on the basis of the energy efficiency index. The calculation results indicate that the combined heating and cooling system proposed can reduce the energy consumption for the thermophilic anaerobic digestion process and the building cooling in municipal waste-water treatment plants by 30% in summer and 40% in winter.
