Comparison between two absorption cooling systems of the "open" type under different climatic conditions.

Author(s) : BOLZAN M., LAZZARIN R.

Type of article: Article, IJR article

Summary

Solar cooling is achieved by traditional absorption devices: these devices are rather expensive and require double glazed or selective solar collectors. Absorption systems of the open type promise to be more economic. Two possibilities are taken into account: Baum's system, and the dehumidification-humidification system. The two methods differ appreciably from each other, but the regeneration is similar for both. The required dimensions of the regenerator are compared for different climates both in Baum's case and for the most suitable dehumidification-humidification system. A comparison is also carried out as regards water consumption. The dehumdificationhumidification system is shown to be cheaper to install and operate in hot climates, but the Baum system is more flexible.
