Summary
A comparative analysis of vapour-compression and air-cycle refrigerating systems has been carried out and discussion of their optimal applications provided. The exergy efficiencies of these types of systems have been calculated using parameters approximating the actual ones. Temperature boundaries of equalization of energy efficiency of the two types of refrigerating systems have been determined. It is shown that air-cycle refrigerating systems can be an alternative to vapour-compression systems in low-temperature applications. Possibilities of improvement of both types of refrigerating systems are considered (see also IIR Bulletin, ref. 2000-2940).
