Summary

Phase change materials (PCMs) integrated in building structures are one of the possible solutions of improvement of insufficient thermal storage capacity of light-weight room envelope. Selected PCMs can be employed for thermal storage in solar air or water systems. Possibility of PCMs use in building applications strongly depends on their thermal, physical, chemical and economic criteria and kind of encapsulation. The goal of the PCMs applications is a significant reduction or elimina-tion of the use of mechanical cooling (air-conditioning) and the consequent reduction of energy needed for building operation. The paper is focused on the results from the set of laboratory exper-iments with selected organic and inorganic PCMs. Laboratory tests were especially focused on the determination of temperature range of melting and solidification, latent heat, specific heat and long thermal stability.
