Summary

SERIES OF YBACUO COMPOSITIONS WERE PREPARED FROM BARIUM CUPRATES AND Y(2)O(3), USING A TWO-STEP SYNTHESIS ROUTE. IT HAS BEEN SHOWN THAT BA(2)CU(3)O(5+) IS ESSENTIAL IN FORMATION OF THE YBA(2)CU(3)O(7-) SUPERCONDUCTING PHASE WHILE BACUO(2) IS NOT AN APPROPRIATE STARTING MATERIAL. RESISTIVITY MEASUREMENTS HINT AT THE EXISTENCE OF 2 SUPERCONDUCTING PHASES. ESR (ELECTRON SPIN RESONANCE) INVESTIGATIONS REVEALED A BASELINE HYSTERESIS, DEPENDING ON THE ACTUAL VALUE OF X.
