Compressor noise evaluation and reduction ("sound shell").

Number: pap. n. 22

Author(s) : HAJEK R., POYSAT P.

Summary

This paper describes the noise evaluation of discus reciprocating compressor and development of the noise reduction device (sound shell). Refrigeration systems are often located inside urban areas; therefore there is a need to minimize sound emissions as much as possible. The Sound shell device completely encapsulates the compressor with resulting sound level attenuation of 10 to 16 dB. This study describes the design development and material evaluation to minimize sound leak with no impact on the reliability and compressor performance. Material safety regulations, compressor serviceability, and easy installation were taken into consideration to optimize the sound shell design.
