Summary

PREVIOUS WORK ON THE EFFECT OF INTERNAL FINS ON THE INNER TUBE OF A DOUBLE-PIPE HEAT EXCHANGER HAS ASSUMED UNIFORM TEMPERATURE AXIALLY AND CIRCUMFERENTIALLY, OR UNIFORM HEAT-FLUX. AS THESE ARE NOT NORMALLY PRESENT, THE AUTHORS HAVE EXPLORED FURTHER SUGGESTIONS CONCERNING THE EFFECT OF HEAT CAPACITY RATIO OF THE TWO FLUIDS ON THE DETERMINATION OF THE NUSSELT NUMBER. THEIR ANALYSIS RESULTS IN A METHOD OF DETERMINATION WHICH CORRELATES WELL WITH THE KNOWN SOLUTION FOR A FINLESS TUBE. D.W.H.
