Summary

The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of internal longitudinal fins for tubular metal hydride reaction beds. Twenty-one kinds of cylindrical tubes (length, 150 mm; inner diameter, 40 mm) with stainless steel internal fins were filled with metal hydride powders: lanthanum-nickel(5) and investigated by experimental and numerical calculations. The relationships between the internal fin geometry and the reaction rates were clarified. The thermal conductivity and thermal capacity of the fins as well as the fin geometry were determined to be important factors determining the heat-exchanger performance.
