Considerations when modelling compression-resorption heat pumps.

Summary

The use of temperature-entropy diagrams for the mixtures shows that the temperature profiles in the desorber and resorber depend strongly on the overall concentration and are not linear: if the temperature levels of the compression-resorption cycle are not chosen with care, the design can be perturbed by unfeasible temperature profiles. In addition, the logarithmic mean temperature difference method cannot be used when working with large temperature glides or a small temperature difference between the streams. The method of comparing the cycles using pure refrigerants and mixtures is also carefully studied, as well as the effect of internal recovery heat exchangers. No general conclusions can be drawn concerning the relative efficiencies of these two cycles.
