DATA ON CONSUMPTION OF FROZEN FOODS IN ITALY IN 1990 ARE TABULATED AND DISCUSSED BY THE ITALIAN FROZEN FOODS INSTITUTE (IIAS). 380,300 METRIC TONS OF FROZEN FOODS WERE SOLD IN 1990, AN INCREASE OF 6.9 % FROM 1989, AND OF 5. 8 % FROM 1988. HOUSEHOLD CONSUMPTION WASUP 7 % FROM 1989, AND 5 % FROM 1988. 16,800,000 ITALIAN FAMILIES, ABOUT 87 % OF THE TOTAL NUMBER, CONSUMED FROZEN FOODS REGULARLY. FROZEN VEGETABLES AND SEAFOODS WERE CONSUMED MOST, WHILE FROZEN MEAT AND PRECOOKED FOODS WERE NOT SUFFICIENTLY USED. TOTAL CONSUMPTION WA IES I TE LOMBARDIA REGION AND LOWEST IN MOLISE. PER CAPITA CONSUMPTION WAS HIGHEST IN FRIULI-VENEZIA-GUD CAPNA THE CAUSES OF THE DIFFERENCES IN DISTRIBUTION LEVELS AMONG ITALIAN REGIONS ARE DISCUSSED. A. P.
