Type of article: Article
Summary
A soil cooling system was developed by studying the flowering habit and physiology of alstroemeria. The system is used by alstroemeria nurseries in Japan, and by freesia nurseries in the Netherlands. There is big cultivar dependence during practical soil temperatures in alstroemeria. Difference of the optimum soil temperature during cultivars makes a big difference in profits. The soil cooling system can be used for many bulbous plants, such as Nerine or Amarylis.
