Summary

NORMAL CONTROL OF MICRO-ORGANISMS IN COOLING TOWER WATER IS BY DOSING WITH BIOCIDES. TESTS HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED WITH ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT USING CONTINUOUS ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION BY MERCURY LAMPS IN A SPECIAL UNIT. RESULTS MONITORED OVER SIX WEEKS SHOW VERY FAVOURABLE RESULTS COMPARED WITH A CHEMICAL SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY FOR PSEUDOMONAS AEROGINOSA WHICH WAS VIRTUALLY ELIMINATED. D.W.H.
