THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE EFFECT OF INEFFICIENT COOLING TOWER OPERATION ON A REFRIGERATION SYSTEM, THEN DESCRIBES RETROFIT METHODS THAT CAN BE ADOPTED TO IMPROVE TOWERS. THESE GENERALLY CONSIST OF REPLACING WOODEN SLAT FILL WITH PVC CELLULAR FILL, REPLACING ELIMINATORS, AND IN CONTRAFLOW TOWERS, REPLACING CIRCULAR NOZZLE SYSTEMS WITH NEW DESIGN SQUARE NOZZLES WHICH PRODUCE BETTER DISTRIBUTION OF WATER.
