Summary
Comparison of the contents of arctic ice cores and cores from North Atlantic sediments shows, in both cases, traces of the cyclic ice ages. It seems possible that the rapid collapse of the ice sheet may have been the cause, rather than effect, of the sudden warming at the end of an ice age. More precise dating of these events is hampered by the uncertainty of carbon dating for events more than 35 thousand years ago. A.R.T.
