Number: 116

Author(s) : ARAPETYAN E.

Summary

The article reviews the scientific research which is conducted in Ukraine for long-term cryopreservation of genetic information without its destruction for biological objects. Experiments aimed at cryoconservation of diversity of flora and fauna under the ultra-low temperature in liquid nitrogen (-196°C) were carried out in Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU), Institute of Botany (NASU), Institute for Plant Physiology and Genetics of the NASU, Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Ivan Franko National University. The objects of the research were following: the seeds of various crops and wild plants’ species listed in the Red List of Threatened Species of Ukraine, cuttings of grape and fruit crops, embryoids, meristems, pollen, microalgae cells, the callus tissue. The behavior of investigated objects in different cryoprotectant solutions during cryoconservation was observed.
