Summary

Grinding is employed mainly as a finishing operation for a wide variety of materials. But grinding is inherently characterized by very high specific energy requirements. This results in high grinding zone temperature. Different techniques of coolant application are needed. Desirable control of high grinding zone temperature by application of liquified gas jets like that of liquid nitrogen is a recent concept in cooling. Advantages of this method are described.
