LIQUID NITROGEN, IF APPLIED SUITABLY CAN BE VERY MUCH EFFECTIVE COMPARED TO THE CONVENTIONAL CUTTING FLUIDS TO REDUCE THE CUTTING TEMPERATURE WHICH IS RESPONSIBLE NOT ONLY FOR RAPID WEAR LEADING TO DIMENSIONAL INACCURACY AND FREQUENT TOOL FAILURES BUT ALSO FOR POOR JOB-QUALITY DUE TO SURFACE ROUGHNESS, RESIDUAL STRESSES AND MICROCRACKS AT THE JOB SURFACES. THE AUTHORS CARRIED OUT INVESTIGATIONS ON CRYOGENIC MACHINING AND GRINDING. IT HAS BEEN OBSERVED THAT, APART FROM THE BENEFICIAL EFFECTS MENTIONED ABOVE, CRYOGENIC APPLICATION IN MACHINING CAN ALSO REDUCE THE CUTTING FORCES AND POWER REQUIREMENTS QUITE SIGNIFICANTLY WHILE MACHINING SOME DUCTILE MATERIALS.
