Cryogenic test of the first-of-series superconducting short multiplet for Super-FRS at FAIR.

Summary

We present the site-acceptance-test results of the first-of-series short multiplet in terms of cryogenics from a comprehensive perspective. The results include the temperature evolution of the cold mass, and the pressure drop in the cold mass and the shield circuits during the cooldown and warmup, as well as the heat-in-leaks of the cryostat including its Thermal Shield (TS) in different operation configurations. These include powering and standby of the magnet, and the holes and windows in the TS covered with MLI blankets or not. Moreover, the LHe inventory in the cryostat was determined together with the calibration test of the level sensors during the LHe filling process. Two filling modes via the 4 K valves were tested using either LHe or supercritical helium as supply. In fact, the latter one is the most crucial operation mode of the Super-FRS machine at FAIR.
