Summary

LYMPHOCYTES FROM 28 PATIENTS WITH A SOFT TISSUE SARCOMA ON A STUDY PROTOCOL HAVING RADIATION THERAPY AFTER SURGICAL RESECTION AND ADJUVANT CHEMOTHERAPY WERE CRYOPRESERVED AND USED IN A PHA-STIMULATED IN VITRO ASSAY OF CELLULAR IMMUNITY. THESE RESULTS WERE CONTRASTED WITH SIMULTANEOUSLY CULTURED NORMAL VOLUNTEER LYMPHOCYTES AND THOSE FROM A GROUP OF OSTEOGENIC SARCOMA PATIENTS WHO ALSO HAD SURGICAL RESECTION OF THEIR DISEASE AND ADJUVANT CHEMOTHERAPY, BUT NO RADIATION THERAPY. STATISTICALLY DIFFERENT RESULTS WERE OBTAINED USING THE FROZEN LYMPHOCYTES OF THIS SPECIFIC POPULATION OF IRRADIATED PATIENTS WHEN COMPARED TO THEIR FRESH VALUES, BUT THIS DIFFERENCE WAS NOT SEEN FOR UNIRRADIATED SARCOMA PATIENTS OR NORMAL VOLUNTEERS.
