Summary

FREEZING WITH LIQUID NITROGEN WAS USED AS A METHOD OF TREATMENT FOR SKIN MALIGNANT TUMOURS IN 90 PATIENTS STARTING IN 1973. ALL OF THE 90 PATIENTS WERE FOLLOWED UP FOR 5 YEARS. DATA SHOWED ENCOURAGING RESULTS WITH BASAL CELL CARCINOMA AND SQUAMOUS CARCINOMA OF LESS THAN 20 MM IN DIAMETER. HOWEVER, THE RESULTS OF THE LARGE ULCERATED SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA AND TUMOURS WITH WIDE METASTASES WERE LESS SATISFACTORY. SEVERAL MANIPULATIVE TECHNIQUES IN IMPROVING THE RESULTS OF CRYOTHERAPY ARE BRIEFLY COMMENTED ON.
