Summary

The use of variable flow rate systems (DCV) for indoor air quality control is one of the most effective strategies in achieving energy savings maintaining indoor air quality and comfort. The opportunities offered by this kind of system are very interesting and recent breakthroughs in sensor technology enable permanent low-cost sensors to be installed, so that efforts can be focused on other aspects as applicative solutions for effective flow rate control. "High efficiency" DCV solution means that local reduction of ventilation rate is obtained by the combined effects of velocity fan reduction and damper action. The paper reports some typical applications and indicates basic aspects for designing and sizing high efficiency DCV systems.
