Summary

The work described sought to establish optimal drying rates and cryopreservation procedures for zygotic axes of Trichilia dregeana, a recalcitrant-seed-producing forest tree indigenous to most of tropical and sub-tropical Africa, where it occupies an important ethnobotanical niche, supplying oil, fodder, food, herbal medicine, and building materials. A cryoprotectant mixture of DMSO and glycerol resulted in the highest survival following cryopreservation.
