CERN HAS DESIGNED A 10 M-LONG, TWIN-APERTURE SUPERCONDUCTING PROTOTYPE. THE 7.5 T MAGNET, BUILT BY INDUSTRY, USES NIOBIUM-TITANIUM SUPERCONDUCTOR OPERATED IN SUPERFLUID HELIUM AT 1.8 K. TO PERMIT ITS OPERATION AND TESTS, A DEDICATED CRYO-STAT HAS BEEN DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED.
