Summary

THE JOINT CENTER FOR ENERGY MANAGEMENT (JCEM) AT A COLORADO UNIVERSITY HAS BUILTA UNIQUE FACILITY FOR TESTING COMPLETE, FULL-SIZE HEATING, VENTILATING, AND AIR-CONDITIONING (HVAC) SYSTEMS AND THEIR CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS. THE FACILITY IS UNIQUE IN THAT IT PERMITS THE STUDY OF ENTIRE SYSTEMS IN A CONTROLLED DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT, PROVIDING REPEATABLE CONDITIONS THAT HAVE BEEN HERTFR AIAL. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PAPER IS TO DOCUMENT THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THIS LABORATORY FOR THE BUILDING RESEARCH COMMUNITY. EXAMPLE TEST RESULTS WILL ALSO BE PRESENTED TO INDICATE THE TYPE OF TESTS THAT CAN BE PERFORMED AT THIS NEW FACILITY.
