Design and testing of a combined Stirling cycle, Joule-Thomson cryocooler system.

Summary

The project goal is development of a long life cryocooler system capable of providing approximately 100 milliwatts of cooling at 4.5 K. The Stirling cycle Joule-Thomson cryocooler system is made up of a two-stage free-piston Stirling cycle cryocooler, which is employed as a pre-cooler for the Joule-Thomson gas circuit, and a set of linear drive gas compressors to provide high pressure gas for the Joule Thomson expander.
