Design and testing of a permanent magnet magnetic refrigerator.

Author(s) : TURA A., ROWE A.

Summary

The design and initial test results of a compact Permanent Magnet Magnetic Refrigerator (PMMR) are presented. Measurements of the permanent magnet arrays indicate that a peak field in excess of 1.4 T over a 20 cm3 cylindrical volume is available. A key design criterion is the ability to operate at frequencies between 0 and 5 Hz. Preliminary tests have been performed to assess sensitivity to operating frequency and utilization. Currently the maximum temperature span obtained is of approximately 13 K with no thermal load.
