Type of monograph: Other

Summary

Bioclimatic design aims at improving the comfort naturally induced by a building. It makes it possible to lower reliance on non-renewable energy sources and initial and operational costs at the level of individual buildings or districts. It can't be summarized as a a technological add-up aiming at meeting regulatory standards, but seeks to appropriately integrate architectural structures from design stage onwards while adjusting the project to its environment. The book is illustrated with diagrams and examples, and supports its demonstration with case studies of buildings situated in various climates.
Extract from the table of contents: from bioclimatic architecture to sustainable urban planning; field experience and acquired knowledge in bioclimatic research; physical approach of the environment; enveloppe and building volume arrangement (thermal exchange through a wall, total building conductance, thermal quality of wall components); behaviour of a building subjected to pressure from its environment and use; architectural and technical arrangement; sun, wind and microclimates in urban spaces; scientific design examples.
