Design checks for HVAC: a quality control framework.

Author(s) : BSRIA, PENNYCOOK K.

Type of monograph: Book, Guide/Handbook

Summary

This updated second edition of the guide improves the quality control and performance of the technical design process. It is up to date with the legislative requirements, standards and codes of practice current in January 2007. Good design is central to the achievement of quality buildings that satisfy client requirements, yet all too often defects and failures that occur after occupation can be shown to have their origin in design deficiencies. Research has shown that 50% of claims notified to PII insurers come from matters arising during the design stage of a project, with 21% of these being attributed to building services elements. The guide meets the need for procedures which can be adopted across the industry, provides practical, easy-to-follow HVAC design guidance presented in a format that can be easily incorporated into quality assurance systems, and become part of the daily routine of design. Design guidance sheets provide information and guidance on design inputs, outputs and practical watch points for key building services design topics to aid the design process and reduce errors. Design check sheets provide checks that can be used as part of the project quality assurance process to record and demonstrate control of design inputs and outputs. Contains new design checks for whole life costing and health and safety. Where possible, design topics have been cross-referenced to the relevant common arrangement of work sections.
