DESCRIBES THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING OF AN EXHAUST AIR HEAT PUMP-HEAT PIPE COMBINATION USED FOR VENTILATION HEAT RECOVERY OF R-2000 (TIGHTLY CONSTRUCTED) HOUSES. TWO SIZES OF HEAT PUMP WERE BUILT AND TESTED, A SMALL NON-FROSTING VERSION AND A LARGE VERSION WITH A DEFROST SYSTEM, OR EVAPORATOR PRESSURE REGULATOR TO PREVENT FROSTING. BOTH SIZES PROVIDED EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE OVER A WIDE RANGE OF OUTDOOR TEMPERATURES. THE COP RANGES FROM 2.5 AT 288 K (15 DEG C) TO 2.3 AT 248 K (-25 DEG C). (INT. BUILD. SERV.
