Summary

THE MODEL OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER IN POROUS MEDIA USED HERE IS DEDUCED FROM WHITAKER'S THEORY. IT LEADS TO A VERY COMPREHENSIVE SET OF EQUATIONS AND TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE EFFECT OF THE GASEOUS PRESSURE. IT IS NUMERICALLY SOLVED WITH UNIDIRECTIONAL TRANSFERS. THE EVOLUTION OF TEMPERATURE, MOISTURE CONTENT AND PRESSURE AS WELL AS THE OVERALL DRYING KINETICS ARE CALCULATED FOR 2 VERY DIFFERENT POROUS MEDIA. THIS DEVICE PERMITS TO STUDY THE SENSITIVITY OF THE MODEL TO INTERNAL PARAMETERS AND CONDITIONS AT THE INTERFACE AS WELL AS THE EFFECT OF CERTAIN REDUCTIONS IN THE MODEL.
