Summary

Buildings account for a large part of the annual energy consumption in modern societies. With the world population increasing, energy needs of communities is one of the primary challenges to combine economy with a sustainable approach. In this study, as set forth in previous studies for Istanbul, buildings with high-internal gains such as hotel buildings, heating demand was lower than the need for cooling in each case. For the purpose of making an optimization of the desired level of savings, precautions to reduce the need for cooling gain importance for this type of buildings. Scenarios will be compared within the scope of this paper which has been developed on this principle. By comparing the amount of savings provided with the stack effect and the solar control elements a comparison of the performance effects is aimed at. As a result of the comparisons, developed passive strategies will reduce the energy demand to observed levels. The optimum situation will be determined by combining passive systems. In this study, by means of the case of a hotel building a general conclusion for the complex buildings via increasing combinations is projected.
