Author(s) : HERMAN A. F. E.
Summary
SUMMERS IN MOST OF SOUTH AFRICA ARE AMONG THE MILDEST IN THE WORLD. THIS, TOGETHER WITH IMAGINATIVE ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN, PRESENTS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO REDUCE OR COMPLETELY ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR MECHANICAL COOLING IN THE AIR CONDITIONING OF OFFICE BUILDINGS. THE PAPER INVESTIGATES, FOR MAJOR CENTRES IN SOUTH AFRICA, THE POTENTIAL OF AIR CONDITIONING WITHOUT REFRIGERATION AND, WHERE MECHANICAL COOLING IS USED, THE POSSIBLE ENERGY SAVINGS RESULTING FROM THE OPTIMUM USE OF OUTSIDE AIR.
