Development and application of multi-stage pulse-tube refrigerators.
Author(s) : GAO J. L., MATSUBARA Y.
Summary
The performance of multi-stage pulse tube refrigerators, which can be used as a replacement of current multi-stage G-M refrigerators, has been improved significantly. In the paper, the early research at Nihon University on multi-stage pulse tube refrigerators, which first reached liquid helium temperature region, are reviewed. Some typical phase shifting mechanism for GM type pulse tube refrigerators are reviewed. The development at SHI-APD of a 10 and a 4 K pulse tube refrigerator, and the development at Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (SHI) of a 4 K pulse tube refrigerator are introduced. Finally, the main applications of multi-stage pulse tube refrigerators, cooling MRI Magnet Systems, cryopump systems and other applications are discussed.
