Development of a 3D simulation tool for design improvement of adsorbers dedicated to solar air-conditioning systems.

Summary

This paper presents a numerical analysis of an adsorber used for solar air-conditioning systems. The aim of this work is to study geometrical parameter influences on a cylindrical adsorber using zeolite13X/water couple. The adsorber considered has a length to diameter ratio equal to 6.25 and four cases are addressed: Nfins equal to 0, 3, 6 and 12. Thanks to several criteria: bed temperature, adsorbed mass and outlet mass flow evolutions, adsorbent to metal mass ratio and cycle time, it appears that the configuration with 6 fins presents the best tradeoff.
