Development of a small size, low power 4 K cryocooler.

Summary

The paper is a progress report on the development of a low refrigeration capacity, low input power, transportable cryocooler, and presents the results of these efforts to date. This application calls for the scaling down of a currently produced 4 K cryocooler, the B100 which produces 1 watt of refrigeration at 4 K. This program has the following goals: to produce 0.3 watt of refrigeration at 4.2 K and 5 watts of refrigeration at 80 K, while requiring less than 1500 watts of input power. The input power is to be available from standard 110 VAC, 60 hertz, wall receptacles. The system is designed to weigh less than 113.5 kilogrammes and is mounted on locking casters for ease of movement.
