Summary

Ethanol-water mixture brine has a low viscosity at low temperatures and a low environmental influence. For the solidification of this brine, fundamental studies have been performed and show that it could make a good fluidity ice slurry at low temperatures. A case study is reported with a mixture ethanol-water at 30% weight (freezing temperature at -23 °C) and a plant comprising an ice maker, a 4 m3 storage tank, and a plate heat exchanger fed with a two-stage cooling unit.
