Development of compact CO2 compressor for transcritical mobile and stationary refrigeration systems.

Number: pap. n. 282

Author(s) : FROESCHLE M.

Summary

The trend towards natural refrigerants is gaining in importance in an increasing number of applications. Many stationary refrigeration systems are already equipped with natural refrigerants. Also in mobile applications natural refrigerants are in many cases an alternative to commonly used refrigerants. Necessary for the use of new refrigerants is at least the same efficiency than the currently used refrigerants. To achieve this, new refrigeration systems and highly efficient compressors have to come into operation. Since the most refrigeration systems operate at part load conditions over a wide scale of the year, systems and components can be optimized for floating load conditions, where CO2 is picking up pretty much in efficiency. The following paper gives an overview of the possible refrigeration systems and the development of a compressor, especially developed for mobile applications.
