Development of hermetic carbon dioxide compressor.

Author(s) : HWANG Y., RADERMACHER R.

Summary

The study presents a laboratory prototype of a hermetic CO2 compressor designed to replace an R22 one. The CO2 cycle is important because of global concern about ozone depletion and global warming. Then the leak tightness, efficiency, size and weight of hermetic motor-driven compressors make them preferable to open-type compressors, and compact and efficient hermetic compressors are necessary to develop an equivalently sized and compact system. The performance of the CO2 compressor was compared with that of an R22 compressor by using a test facility developed for transcritical CO2 cycle.
