Summary

THE RECIPROCATING COMPRESSOR IS A MACHINE WITH A LONG HISTORY OF DEVELOPMENT. BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND CLASSICAL DESIGN METHODS, A RELIABLE TYPE OF MACHINE HAS BEEN PRODUCED AND IT HAS FOUND WIDESPREAD USE, ALSO IN REFRIGERATION. THE AUTHORS AREOF THE OPINION THAT FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN DESIGN CAN BE ACHIEVED BY MAKING GRADUAL CHANGES, WHILST MAINTAINING THE SAME BASIC PRINCIPLE. THEIR CONCLUSION IS BASED ON CONSIDERABLE ADVANCES WHICH TOOK PLACE IN COMPRESSOR DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF MODERN COMPUTER TECHNIQUES. IN THIS CONNECTION, SOME INTERESTING RESULTS WERE OBTAINED IN DESIGNING A NEW SERIES OF RECIPROCATING COMPRESSORS. THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES COMPUTER APPLICATIONS IN VALVE DESIGN, STRENGTH CALCULATIONS FOR COMPRESSOR HOUSINGS AND LABORATORY TESTING.
