Summary

BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND CLASSICAL DESIGN METHODS, A RELIABLE TYPE OF MACHINE HAS ARISEN, WHICH HAS FOUND A WIDESPREAD USE, ALSO IN REFRIGERATION. CONSEQUENTLY, IS THERE STILL ANYTHING THAT MIGHT BE EXPECTED FROM FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN DESIGN BY MAKING GRADUAL CHANGES ONLY, WHILST MAINTAINING THE SAME BASIC PRINCIPLE ? THE AUTHORS' OPINION IS THAT TO THIS QUESTION A POSITIVE ANSWER CAN BE GIVEN. THE HUGE ACCELERATION WHICH TOOK PLACE IN COMPRESSOR DEVELOPMENT WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY THE APPLICATION OF MODERN COMPUTER TECHNIQUES. THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES COMPUTER APPLICATIONS IN VALVE DESIGN, IN STRENGTH CALCULATION OF NEW COMPRESSOR HOUSINGS AND IN LABORATORY TESTING.
