Summary

Spanish translation of an article presented at an IIR Meeting at Palmerston North, New Zealand, November 15-18, 1993 (see IIR Bulletin 94-6, 94-3849). Following some statistics about foodstuffs and their means of transport, modern refrigerated ship characteristics are analysed in detail (several possible temperatures (-30 to 14 deg C), controlled atmosphere, transport of integral or centralized air cooled containers). For centralized plants, the emphasis is put on the return of ammonia which is conditional upon specific operating requirements. New types of containers are described. Lastly, air transport and its future is discussed.
