Developments in transportation of chilled produce by sea and air.

Author(s) : STERA A. C.

Summary

Following some statistics about foodstuffs and their means of transport, modern refrigerated ship characteristics are analysed in detail (several possible temperatures (-30 to 14 deg C), controlled atmosphere, transport of integral or centralized air cooled containers). For centralized plants, the emphasis is put on the return of ammonia which is conditional upon specific operating requirements. New types of containers are described. Lastly, air transport and its future is discussed.
