Summary

In Austria, direct evaporation ground-coupled systems with horizontally installed ground coils dominate the heat pump market. This is due to their lower cost and higher efficiency, compared with secondary loop systems, which is achieved by omitting the circulation pump and avoiding heat transfer loss in the evaporator of a secondary loop system. The seasonal performance factors of the direct systems is in the range of 4 to 5.
