Summary

The article reviews the refrigerating equipment of the large-scale food-distribution sector in France. It provides numerous figures and ratios on the number and surface area of supermarkets and hypermarkets, the portion of their surface area devoted to the sale of chilled and frozen food, the surface area of cold rooms, etc. It also gives some information, with figures, on the refrigerating capacity and the refrigerant charge per linear meter of display case, and draws some conclusions. And finally, the article deals with the energy consumption of display cases and cold rooms.
