Summary

A FIELD REPORT ON WHAT MEASURES A MAJOR FOOD SUPERMARKET HAS TAKEN TO UPDATE AND IMPROVEITS FROZEN FOOD DISPLAY EQUIPMENT. NEW CABINET DESIGNS DO NOT ONLY FEATURE MORE MODERN STYLING, BUT CUSTOMER SAFETY HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT BY THE CAREFUL SHAPING OF CABINET ANGLES, CORNERS, TRIMS, ETC. CABINET CLEANING OPERATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE EASIER AND MULTIDECK DISPLAY CASES ARE NOW BEING FITTED WITH SCREENS TO ENSURE DUST FREE AIR AT THE THROAT OF THE CABINET. THE EFFICIENCIES OF REFRIGERATING UNITS HAVE BEEN IMPROVED BY THE WIDESPREAD USE OF SCREW COMPRESSORS AND HEAT RECOVERY IS A BUILT-IN FEATURE. SINCE REFRIGERATION IS THE LARGEST ENERGY CONSUMER IN A SUPERSTORE (49% WITH HEATING AND VENTILATION COMING SECOND WITH 19%), PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS BEING GIVEN TO ENERGY SAVING FACTOS. A. H. S.
