District heating for complete HVAC: application of absorption-type chillers for cooling of large building by means of heat from district heating.

Summary

The cold that is necessary in HVAC systems for large buildings, is usually generated with compression refrigeration machines. An alternative, now becoming popular in the Netherlands, is the use of absorption chillers for providing the base-load cold, with heat supply from a district heating system. The advantages and drawbacks of absorption refrigeration as proposed are discussed, along with actual project proposals, some of which are now being executed.
