Summary

The definition and interpretation of the seasonal performance factor (SPF) of a compression heat pump is given. The influence of the heat source type, the design of a heating system and working parameters is taken into account. The minimal SPF value is discussed and the methods of SPF calculation are described, including computer programs. The results of incorrect system design are discussed. The ecological aspect of the heat pumps use in heating systems is taken into account.
