Summary

From measurements performed while drilling, geophysicists offer the climatologists another way of knowing climate conditions in the past. Fluctuations in the sub-soil space temperature reflect the temperature variations on the surface of the ground. Provided many precautions are taken, it is possible to piece together the main facts about the climatic history of a region, on a time scale spreading from a hundred to a thousand years. The article analyzes the method and some of the results.
