The greenhouse effect: should we put aside our fears?

L'effet de serre : faut-il remiser nos craintes ?

Summary

The increase in gasses contributing to the greenhouse effect has eased. Could the danger of global warming have lost its urgency? Nothing is less certain. It is important to note that we are seeing a reduction in the rate of growth, not a decrease in concentration. This reduction in the rate of growth seems to be due to aerosols linked to volcanic sulphur dioxide (Pinatubo 1991). Only a significant reduction in anthropic emissions will permanently reduce the rate of growth of CO2.
