Dynamic model of ice-slurry systems for performance evaluation.

Summary

In the paper an evaluation of ice slurry as a cooling fluid in secondary cooling systems was conducted. A dynamic model was developed; it incorporates the various stages of a secondary cooling cycle (production, storage, transport and utilization). The model was used to test different components such as the ice-slurry generator. Cooling load and cooling temperatures of typical applications were used to evaluate the dynamic behaviour of the ice slurry cooling system. The model is also used to determine more accurately under which conditions ice slurries can be used. An economic evaluation of an air-conditioning application and a supermarket cooling system was made. The effects of the operating limits of the fluidised bed ice slurry generator on the entire cooling system were evaluated.
